RHS Wakehurst Place Water Gardens

We have been installing resin pathways for many years at RHS Wakehurst Place. Generally upgrading a lot of their more public heavy-trafficked areas.

On this occasion the brief was to install the resin finish while all other works continued, due to a very tight schedule, even if certain elements of the paths such as specialist wooden bridges had not been completed, they would fit the bridge to our paths instead of the usual approach where we would be the last trade in and fit the path to the already secured bridge. We worked very closely with Wakehurst, the landscapers and the specialist bridge constructors.

RHS Wakehurst made the unorthodox yet correct decision to approach the construction this way, as certain important structural parts for the bridges had not arrived from abroad. Working alongside the bridge builders, we were able to take exact measurements and put in place form work for us to lay up too. A set of steps with very irregular shapes also proved tricky, yet the team overcame this with some very fine tuned tools and laying techniques. Supports for the bridges turned up two days after we finished laying the resin which meant the bridge builders could access the areas by using our paths. In went the bridges and the water gardens were open on time. Credit to RHS Wakehurst for understanding the needs of some trades and when deliveries are coming from abroad, they may not turn up on time!
