The Old Dairy, Drive and Rear Paths

A new customer/landscaper contacted us via our website requesting our advice on different resin applications to the rear paths and drive to this quaint house in West Sussex.

After our initial meeting and survey, it was clear the driveway was a shingle drive on compacted earth and therefore would need a full dig out and reconstruction. However, the rear paths had an old, cracked, but solid concrete base. When asked can we lay the resin at 18mm thickness direct to this surface the answer was no, as the cracks in the concrete over time may reflect through.

All was not lost, it would be a shame to excavate and remove the concrete base, more costly and more damaging to the environment, also the fact that all spoil and materials would have to go into the garage and through a small single door to be installed, made the decision easier. The house owner explained that they didn’t want to change the shape of the paths just upgrade them as they looked tired. So, by raising the edges to the paths by 35mm we could install the Terrabase Classic system and not have the upheaval of reconstructing them. The landscaper took on the work to install the cobbled edges. Once this was complete, we came in and installed Addagrip’s Terrabase Classic 6mm Honey paths in one day so there weren’t any joints.

Next was the Driveway, as they had Corten steel edges already installed, we reconstructed the drive, digging out the existing shingle sub-base to a suitable depth, installing a geotextile membrane, permeable sub-base, porous tarmac with the colour Addagrip’s Stonebound 6mm Yuma as the resin finish. We also installed channel drains, as some of the levels to the surrounding areas didn’t allow us to let excess water fall away from the house. Whilst the work went ahead the house owner went on holiday and we kept our progress updated with phone calls and pictures sent daily from site for which they were very grateful. Again, we picked the right day to lay the whole drive in one day so no joints.

Trugrip laid 55m2 of Addagrip Terrabase Classic 6mm Honey at 35mm thickness to the rear paths, also 134m2 of Addagrip Stonebound 6mm Yuma at 18mm thickness to the driveway.
